Planning a course with us? check through the steps below so you can get the most from a great experience.

1. Site Selection

If you don't have a preferred location we suggest you pick at least 3 sites and then find a course duration that ties in with where you want to go. Please remember that the: weather, wildlife, flora and fauna will be different at each site; so please have a browse or contact us if your looking for something specific.

2. Booking a course

Once you have an idea of where or when you want to go - or even if you don't - the easiest way to find our courses is using the booking page where you can find a frequently updated course calendar. Each course has a unique code - at the bottom of the booking page you can see the code, simply click and it will direct you to the online shop. Alternatively, we can process your requests by phone.

3. Check your kit

Once you've booked check through the recommended kit for your environment (temperate for UK courses). Arctic, Desert and Jungle kit lists only apply for expeditions.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Is food provided?
SB provide all food and drink required on a course.

Can I bring my own/additional food?
Of course our instructors are happy for clients to bring any extras with them they require.

How fit to I need to be?
For temperate courses no training is required although eating and resting well before and after a course is advised. Expeditions will have different fitness standards. Clients seeking private tuition for night navigation etc can either have terrain or time schedules that meet your fitness level or an instructor can best advise levels required.

Are instructors first aid trained?
All of our instructors hold at minimum a standard first aid certificate and are encouraged to do more. Therefore, some have combat medic experience and civilian based instructors are actively involved with national mountain/water rescue services and red cross ambulance services.

How strict are the course instructors?
At SB we have a mix of military and civilian background survival experts - all instructors will run courses in a relaxed manner and be flexible in their delivery of course content. For those wishing to be pushed mentally or physically instructors can address your requirements and act accordingly; but this is not the normal for many on their first course.
